Boston To Become Pilot Site For New Mower Md™ Service Center

MTD Introduces Unique Service Center That Makes “House Calls” to Repair All Types of Outdoor Power Equipment

CLEVELAND, OH – January 7, 2005 – Boston has been selected as one of four pilot sites to test out a new outdoor power equipment service concept. Under the name of Mower MD™, the unique service center has the ability to make in-store or at-home repairs on most major brands of outdoor power equipment sold by mass retailers. Mower MD was formed from a partnership between MTD Products, a leading manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, and its Central Parts Distributor Network. The Boston service center is located at 30 Industrial Way in Norwood.

Other pilot Mower MD service centers will be located in Cleveland (OH), Louisville (KY) and St. Louis (MO). All four are expected to open this March. Future plans to expand the program to other cities, in conjunction with interested independent dealers, are being formulated.

“We are extremely excited about this new service offering,” said Gordon Manning, president MTD Service. “Mower MD represents a unique concept in the lawn and garden industry. Unlike other service companies that are under contract to exclusively repair specific brands or only handle high-end lawn mower repairs, Mower MD will handle repairs in almost any price range on nearly any brand of any type of outdoor power equipment, not just lawn mowers.”

In addition to the store’s on-site services, Mower MD personnel can also make house calls, for a service call fee, to perform repairs on large equipment at a customer’s home, thereby saving homeowners the time and frustration of hauling their equipment to a repair center.

“Until now, only those customers who purchased an outdoor power product from an independent dealer had such a convenient service option,” said Manning. “But with Mower MD, any customer can benefit from this convenience, regardless of the brand purchased or the type of retailer.”

Mower MD service centers will not be involved in product sales; they are strictly service providers. Consumers can drop off a wide variety of outdoor power equipment at the service center or, for a small delivery fee, can request pickup and delivery service, if the repair cannot be completed at the customer’s home.
